Friday 5th December - Winter

It has definitely turned a bit chilly and it has gone from cardigan weather to coat weather, with optional scarf and mittens.  It is definitely too chilly for this outfit...

Winter (1904) Edouard Bisson
Oh, someone is up for chilblains. For goodness sake woman, get out of the tree and puts some shoes on. Mind you, it is rather typical of Mr Bisson's work.  He is a big fan of the 'flowing hair and nipple' school.  The lady in Winter reminds me of Violet Manner's portraits of women (including herself), beautiful, dark and a little bit odd. I thought it might be a personification of Winter, but she seems to have something strapped to her back.  It could be that she is linked to this image...

The Mandolin Player Edouard Bisson

This badly dressed young woman clutching a mandolin is part of a series of paintings showing the feckless grasshopper who plays all summer and starves in the winter.  Happy Christmas!

I think the thing strapped behind 'Winter' is a mandolin and she is the grasshopper, freezing to death and barely covering up her boobs.  I'm not sure if the other bit is true of grasshoppers but it certainly is true in Bisson pictures...

The Three Graces (1899)
There seems to be a lot of 'spillage' issues in Bisson's work, which I'm guessing is a particular issue come winter.  No-one needs frostbitten nipples.  Put them away, Love.

In no way connected with nipples, today's present suggestion is one that shouldn't come as a surprise.  What else would you want for Christmas but me? Or rather my books, obviously.  Can I suggest, completely impartially, that you might want to purchase one of my lovely books to give to a love one or keep for yourself.  There is a competition over on Goodreads at the moment to win one of my signed copies of Stunner, look, there is a link at the top of the page! However, if you don't wish to leave it to chance, Stunner and A Curl of Copper and Pearl can be purchased from Amazon or other book sellers.

Stunner can be bought here (UK) or here (USA) or your local branch.
A Curl of Copper and Pearl is here (UK) and here (USA).

See you lovely people tomorrow!

  1. Dear Kirsty
They make me feel cold just looking at them! Honestly, haven't they ever heard of thermal underwear, or even vests? And who told them that flimsy chiffon was suitable attire for Winter? That person needs to stand in the corner and think about their behaviour...tsk!
    Best wishes
    Ellie

  2. I know, however I'm rather sturdily built so I think I could swan about in chiffon and still be nice and warm. Not that I would because Damart exists.

    Thanks for the comments!
