I'm trying to find out more about Gotch as his work is gorgeous. Good choice of Alleuia girl ;)Kirsty Stonell Walkerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08342964877965021654noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1441164155286448763.post-2665460717034133782012-01-18T23:13:37.867+00:002012-01-18T23:13:37.867+00:00Little one at the front with her finger pointing u...Little one at the front with her finger pointing up! She's reading the lyrics and miming them unconsciously... I'd not seen 'They Come' before and you're right about the startling colours. I think the girls are waiting expectantly for something they are going to watch, something important enough to walk on rose petals. A w3dding party, perhaps? A royal procession? Either way, it's almost upon them. They can see it and we can't and never will. As an artistic exercise in tension, it's wonderful, a real tease. Thank you for posting these.Rhissannahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09001501916407616825noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1441164155286448763.post-68498557965719092782011-08-18T06:31:30.629+01:002011-08-18T06:31:30.629+01:00Nice choice, Gracie ;)Nice choice, Gracie ;)Kirsty Stonell Walkerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08342964877965021654noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1441164155286448763.post-32855584605707554262011-08-18T05:04:03.002+01:002011-08-18T05:04:03.002+01:00Well, you KNOW I have to pick out a favorite in Al...Well, you KNOW I have to pick out a favorite in Alleuia now!

I'm going to go with the girl at far left, front row. Because she looks like someday she might have grown up to model for Waterhouse. :)Gracehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01961174973796318673noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1441164155286448763.post-22573450554889329152011-08-17T00:53:18.244+01:002011-08-17T00:53:18.244+01:00Gotch is a strange one. His compositions taken as they are from Flemish and Italian art give his girls a Madonna-like presence but I like your idea of them being virgin martyrs.Judyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14870791842615196439noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1441164155286448763.post-33991186290808655562011-08-16T16:22:11.292+01:002011-08-16T16:22:11.292+01:00Thank you for the tips, I shall go and seek them o...Thank you for the tips, I shall go and seek them out :)Kirsty Stonell Walkerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08342964877965021654noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1441164155286448763.post-53750844218451406912011-08-16T11:32:10.550+01:002011-08-16T11:32:10.550+01:00I'm not sure his contemporaries were quite sur...I'm not sure his contemporaries were quite sure what to make of his work though quite often considered him one of the last of the PRB's. Baldrey's 1898 articles on him for the Studio are on-line now and Pamela Lomax's biography is good.Hermeshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00968366076064269729noreply@blogger.com
