Damnit, I think you are right about the reverse, that's the problem with the internet! It's definitely worth a visit, and thank you for your interpretation, I think you are right. Enjoy the exhibition!Kirsty Stonell Walkerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08342964877965021654noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1441164155286448763.post-44341498754167173012017-08-20T10:50:15.064+01:002017-08-20T10:50:15.064+01:00I will definitely get up to York to see this. I think they demonstrate Moore's avant-garde aesthetic thinking in that (with Whistler) he regarded a picture as first and foremost a beautiful arrangement of formal qualities such as line, colour, mass etc above any anecdotal quality. This is why it didn't matter if the "story" was repeated, it was a different picture and should be viewed as such because the colour arrangement was different. Seen in that light these pictures in fact demonstrate his seriousness and commitment to an aesthetic philosophy. The titles chosen almost at random, "Sofa", "Apples" and "Beads" reinforce this point. By the way your image of "Apples" here is reversed, at least in my books on Moore all three pictures are the same way round, are all three in the exhibition?david thompsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05692146122552088160noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1441164155286448763.post-57318123180048110362017-08-05T08:05:27.329+01:002017-08-05T08:05:27.329+01:00Looks like a trip to York could be worthwhile. I used to find Moore a bit of a bore, all drapery and poses (though maybe the Master of the Drapery), but have come to really appreciate the immaculate aesthetic in his work. Thanks for the review and the indication of other things to look out for. William Rosehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00413386229678622672noreply@blogger.com
